The world has become one of gears and steam. The age of reason paved the way to an age of revolution both political and scientific. Now an industrial age has come to man’s world belching smoke and crafting steel machinations. It is the end of silly superstitions and the being afraid of the dark. At least that is what lies upon the surface. Beneath lies a demimonde, a world within a world, where shadows can come to life and there are things that go bump in the night.

“Double, double toil and trouble” incantation up to the timeless, “By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes”

The Penny Dreadful game setting takes place in an alternate history of the late 19th century. It is rooted in both the Wild West mythology of America and the Gothic horror of Europe. It draws inspiration form Tall tales, Mystery Novels and of course the Penny Dreadful horror stories popular in Victorian Britain. Many of the traditional Pathfinder rules have been modified to best exist in this setting. First off there is only one Playable Race, Humans. Elves, Dwarfs and Gnomes do not exist in this world but powerful and often monstrous beings do. Several templates can be added to the existing human rules that both augment and penalize the player character.

So let us peel back the veil and see what the lays within the shadows..
